Networking & Entrepreneurship Assignment

This assignment sometimes gives students trouble as they are worried about contacting people or feel they do not know anybody. But as stated in the outline:

You know more people then you think. People like to assist in this assignment.

If you can't find anyone to interview:

If you cannot find someone to interview the following sources have been helpful in the past. Please remember that they do not have a ready list of individuals waiting to participate in the assignment but will normally help you find somebody.

Career Placement Centre/Student Affairs Phone: 457-6100

Business and Tourism Society Phone: 457-6100

** If you are experiencing problem after contacting this list please e-mail the course coordinator - Peter.Mombourquette@msvu.ca. (Although he must be contacted at least 7 days prior to the assignment due date).

Helpful Hints:

For both assignments it is necessary to speak to people you may not know very well so it is very important that you follow the following guidelines:

Be Prepared - Do Not call or visit anyone without knowing what you are going to say. Write down your introduction, questions and closing statements.

If you are calling to ask someone if they will consider being interviewed, make sure you have a well written description of the assignment prior to making the call, suggestions of dates to meet and always say thank you regardless of the answer.

Use a recording device or take detailed notes - Nobody can remember everything that someone says. Take detailed notes and if possible use a recording device to make sure you capture all the details of the interview.

Be courteous - Always thank participants and follow up the interview with an e-mail or a hand written note.
